Resumo:
Recently, hair transition has been associated with a conscious movement to value blackness built mainly due to the reach of specialized groups in social networks. Recognizing the impact of shared experiences in the construction of blackness as a collective and political identity, this work is dedicated to understanding what types of meanings are constructed by five black women about their particular experiences of hair transition apart from the virtual environment. From the interpretation of the data based on Critical Narrative Analysis, hair transition is reported mostly as an aesthetic experience. The beauty technique is valued in the private scenario and built through a personal overcoming narrative as a result of an experience of suffering that finds value and meaning in the reconstruction of self-image.
