The goal of the present thesis is to underline the
scientific aspects of the formation of a national identity
in the transition of the Monarchic to the Republican
regimes, based on an approach to the two distinct phases of
the Brazilian Magazine (Revista Brasileira), between the
years of 1879 and 1900. This specific magazine has
been chosen due to the fact that it was a relevant midia
used by the intellectuals of that time. In order to achieve
such goal, the concept of scientific vulgarization has been
adopted, allowing for the verification of the techniques of
popularization of science among the laic public.
