Resumo: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The increase of divorce rates made specialists study the reflexes that this
event has for the family system and for each family member. In a systemic
perspective, it’s understood that the divorce happens like a crisis, demanding
reorganization and border renegotiation from the family system. In a family and
couple psychoanalytic perspective, the family must grieve the end of the
relationship and reinvest the libido. Children, as a part of the family, also have to
adapt to the changes. But, in which way they understand the information that is
given to them? How they comprehend all the changes that are happening? What’s
their perception about the parental relationship, a few years after the divorce? This
study is an attempt to clarify a little more each of these questions. A field research
was made, in which ten children – who had their parents divorced for, at least, two
years –, that had from nine to twelve years old, were interviewed. Between the
results, it was found that, according to the children’s perspective, parents are
trying to find a way to interact, putting children first, maintaining a cooperative
relationship with the ex-partner. In other cases, children perceive that their parents
are experiencing difficulties to negotiate and to find new ways to relate. In these
cases, the former spouses live in constant conflicts, or avoid any kind of contact
with each other.
