This dissertation presents a study of the RFID Technology applied in cargo
transport operations for PETROBRAS (The Brazilian oil holding company) oil
platforms at Campos Basin. The main purposes are the value chain evaluation
associated with the cargo transportation in this area by the sea and also the
elaboration of a model able to indicate the main competitive advantages resulting
due RFID technology applications. The costs of today legacy operation are
evaluated and the impact of RFID introduction in this operation is also evaluated.
The value chain concept according M. Porter is applied to describe the two
evaluations. The main final results are the detailed description of today logistics
and the elaboration of a powerful and simple model able to indicate the costs gain
resulting of future applications of RFID technology in the service and cargo
transportation units at Campos Basin.
