[pt] Nos dois primeiros artigos da terceira questão da segunda parte da Ars Logicae, integrante do Cursus Philosophicus Thomisticus (CPT), João de Santo Tomás (João Poinsot, 1589-1644), filósofo da Segunda Escolástica, herdeiro da tradição tomista, influenciado pelo Cardeal Caetano (1469-1534), evidencia a relevância do problema dos universais para a metafísica, a lógica e a epistemologia tomistas. Considerando tais artigos, propõe-se aqui examinar a exposição do filósofo de Lisboa acerca da solução proposta por Tomás de Aquino (1225-1274) ao problema dos universais. Inicialmente, conforme o primeiro artigo, serão analisadas as diversas acepções de universal e a sua definição. Em seguida, no segundo artigo, será discutido se o universal pode ser considerado materialmente e como sujeito à parte da coisa. Por fim, busca-se destacar a originalidade com que João de Santo Tomás defende a doutrina tomista diante das críticas das diferentes escolas filosóficas vigentes em seu tempo.

[en] In the first two articles of the third question of thesecond part of the Ars Logicae, which forms part of the CursusPhilosophicus Thomisticus, John of St. Thomas (John Poinsot,1589-1644), philosopher of the Second Scholasticism, heir to thethomistic tradition, influenced by Cardinal Cajetan (1469-1534),highlights the relevance of the problem of universals forthomistic metaphysics, logic, and epistemology. Consideringthese articles, this study proposes to examine the exposition ofthe Lisbon philosopher concerning the solution proposed byThomas Aquinas (1225-1274) to the problem of universals.Initially, following the first article, the various meanings of theterm universal and its definition will be analyzed. Next, in thesecond article, the discussion will address whether the universalcan be considered materially and as a subject apart from thething. Finally, the aim is to emphasize the originality with whichJohn of St. Thomas defends the Thomistic doctrine against thecriticisms advanced by the different philosophical schools of histime.
