[pt] Este artigo é uma investigação inicial acerca do estatuto ontológico da imagem segundo os termos gregos Eikōn e Ágalma nas Enéadas de Plotino. Busca-se compreender em que medida a imagem, longe de se reduzir a um simulacro, desempenha uma função epistêmica e mística no percurso da alma. Sua função epistêmica se daria pelo modus operandi de conhecimento próprio à alma, que não é exclusivamente discursivo, mas também icônico, permitindo-lhe apreender o real de modo imediato e simbólico. A função mística, por sua vez, manifesta-se na condução e união da alma a uma realidade noética, a saber, o domínio das formas e, em última instância, o Uno. A hipótese central é que a imagem, longe de ser exclusivamente opaca, pode ser compreendida como uma forma de revelação, uma transparência de uma realidade superior. Apesar de sua presença significativa no corpus plotinianum, esses dois termos não têm recebido a devida atenção por parte das pesquisas recentes.

[en] This article is an initial investigation into the ontological status of the image according to the Greek terms Eikon and Agalma in Plotinus Enneads. It seeks to understand the extent to which the image, far from being reduced to a simulacrum, performs an epistemic and mystical function in the journey of the soul. Its epistemic function would occur through the modus operandi of knowledge proper to the soul, which is not exclusively discursive, but also iconic, allowing it to grasp reality in an immediate and symbolic way. The mystical function, in turn, manifests itself in the guidance and union of the soul with a noetic reality, namely, the realm of forms and, ultimately, the One. The central hypothesis is that the image, far from being exclusively opaque, can be understood as a form of revelation, a transparency of a higher reality. Despite their significant presence in Plotinus corpus, these two terms have not received due attention in recent research.
