[pt] O artigo objetiva elucidar como a violência estrutural se intersecciona com a saúde
mental da pessoa idosa, e nas políticas de saúde mental no Brasil e no Uruguai.
Dentre os principais resultados, a violência estrutural se intersecciona com a pessoa idosa na negação do sofrimento mental como refração da questão social. Nas
políticas de saúde mental no Brasil e no Uruguai, a intersecção está no apagamento
social, evidenciado pela ausência de investimentos públicos em saúde mental para
a população idosa, legitimando um Estado que perpetua o sofrimento enquanto
serve aos interesses privados do capital.
Resumo
[en] The article aims to elucidate how structural violence intersects with the mental
health of older adults and with mental health policies in Brazil and Uruguay. Among
the main findings, structural violence intersects with the elderly through the denial of
mental suffering as an expression of social issues. In mental health policies in Brazil
and Uruguay, this intersection is reflected in social erasure, evidenced by the lack of
public investment in mental health for the elderly population, thereby legitimizing a
state that perpetuates suffering while serving the private interests of capital.
