[pt] Esta dissertação tem como objetivo compreender as interações entre a missão cristã e a cultura aplicada no contexto de vulnerabilidade social da Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro. A pesquisa adota uma abordagem de longa duração a partir da Idade Moderna, evidenciando as ambiguidades da missão nos processos de organização social nacional e estadual, dando destaque a centralidade histórica e simbólica do Grande Rio, marcada por profundas desigualdades socioespaciais e por um campo religioso plural e competitivo. Analisando a atuação das diferentes tradições cristãs presentes, bem como suas disputas por legitimidade, poder simbólico e inserção política, em estreita relação com os processos de sociabilidade, a dissertação também observa a cultura formada da urbe fluminense ao longo dos anos, juntamente com seus atores, seus grupos, seus espaços de origem e suas recepções dentro do cenário cristão, sendo exemplificado pelas expressões culturais geradas pelos mesmos, e compreende a vulnerabilidade social como fenômeno estrutural e historicamente produzido. Nesse contexto, propõe-se uma missão vulnerável como chave teológica e missionária para uma prática encarnada, relacional e solidária, rejeitando modelos missionários colonizadores e assumindo a condição humana juntamente com a sua cultura como lugar teológico e misiológico. Conclui-se que a missão cristã, nos contextos vulneráveis do Grande Rio, é desafiada a rever suas empreendimentos, adotando caminhos de esperança que se comprometam com a dignidade humana e a transformação da realidade, assumindo a cultura presente através da inculturação para fazer com que o Evangelho do Reino de Deus seja comunicado de forma anunciativa, testemunhal e experienciada.

[en] This dissertation aims to understand the interactions between christian mission and applied culture in the context of social vulnerability in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. The research adopts a long-term approach starting in the Modern Age, highlighting the ambiguities of the mission in the processes of national and state social organisation, emphasising the historical and symbolic centrality of Grande Rio, marked by profound socio-spatial inequalities and a pluralistic and competitive religious field. Analysing the actions of the different christian traditions present, as well as their disputes over legitimacy, symbolic power and political insertion, in close relation to the processes of sociability, the dissertation also observes the culture formed in Rio de Janeiro over the years, together with its actors, its groups, its spaces of origin and its receptions within the christian scenario, exemplified by the cultural expressions generated by them, and understands social vulnerability as a structural and historically produced phenomenon. In this context, a vulnerable mission is proposed as a theological and missionary key to an incarnational, relational and supportive practice, rejecting colonising missionary models and assuming the human condition together with its culture as a theological and missiological place. It is concluded that the christian mission, in the vulnerable contexts of Grande Rio, is challenged to review its undertakings, adopting paths of hope that are committed to human dignity and the transformation of reality, assuming the present culture through inculturation so that the Gospel of the Kingdom of God is communicated in an annunciative, testimonial and experiential way.
