[pt] Este artigo trata dos limites e desafios da transição de adolescentes dos serviços de acolhimento institucional em decorrência da maioridade. A pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, somada às observações do campo, revela que, ao completarem 18 anos e deixarem de ser alvo da proteção integral garantida pelo ECA, esses jovens veem sua cidadania, que antes lhes era, de alguma forma, garantida, em contagem regressiva; resta-lhes frágeis caminhos à frente. Conclui-se que a lógica neoliberal e familista do Estado perpetua a institucionalização de filhos de famílias negras e pobres. Enquanto isso, há uma lacuna significativa na oferta de políticas públicas, afastando-os ainda mais da conquista de uma cidadania plena. Sendo assim, evidencia-se a urgência da efetivação de uma preparação gradual para promover a independência e autonomia desses adolescentes, que enfrentam uma ruptura abrupta com a instituição.

[en] This article addresses the challenges and limitations faced by adolescents transitioning out of institutional care due to reaching adulthood. Through bibliographic and documentary research, combined with field observations, it is revealed that upon turning 18 and no longer being under the comprehensive protection guaranteed by the ECA, these young people experience a countdown to their citizenship, which was once somewhat assured, now facing fragile paths ahead. The conclusion is that the neoliberal and familist logic of the State perpetuates the institutionalization of children from Black and poor families. Meanwhile, there is a significant gap in the provision of public policies, further distancing them from achieving full citizenship. Therefore, the urgency of gradually preparing these adolescents to promote independence and autonomy is highlighted, as they face an abrupt rupture from the institution.
