[pt] Tradução e sentido em Jane Austen: a tradução de elementos culturalmente marcados em Orgulho e preconceito sob a perspectiva da Linguística Cognitiva é uma dissertação de mestrado que analisa quatro traduções diferentes para o português brasileiro de Pride and Prejudice, de Jane Austen, e investiga como as pessoas tradutoras lidam com os elementos culturalmente marcados na obra. A partir da premissa de que traduções literárias não são meros processos linguísticos, mas eventos discursivos situados, condicionados por contextos históricos, culturais e subjetivos (Halverson, 2013), o trabalho explora as implicações das escolhas tradutórias e a produção de sentido a partir de tais escolhas, defendendo a perspectiva de que a Linguística Cognitiva pode ser uma ferramenta útil para integrar o arcabouço teórico dos Estudos da Tradução, sobretudo quando lidamos com os aspectos extralinguísticos da prática tradutória. Valendo-se da Teoria dos Espaços Mentais (1985), de Gilles Fauconnier, como ferramenta analítica, o trabalho apresenta uma metodologia inédita e original, capaz de integrar cognição, linguagem e cultura, demonstrando como o sentido das traduções é influenciado pelos Modelos Cognitivos Idealizados (MCIs) das pessoas tradutoras. A pesquisa contribui para os Estudos da Tradução ao oferecer uma abordagem que busca superar a dicotomia entre forma e conteúdo, ao mesmo tempo em que preenche duas lacunas: a escassez de estudos sobre as traduções brasileiras de Jane Austen e a pouca aplicação da Linguística Cognitiva no campo dos Estudos da Tradução.

[en] Translation and meaning in Jane Austen: the translation of culturally marked elements in Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics is a master s thesis that analyzes four different translations into Brazilian Portuguese of Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, and investigates how translators deal with culturally marked elements in the work. Based on the premise that literary translations are not merely linguistic processes, but situated discursive events, conditioned by historical, cultural and subjective contexts (Halverson, 2013), the work explores the implications of translation choices and the production of meaning from such choices, defending the perspective that Cognitive Linguistics can be a useful tool for integrating the theoretical framework of Translation Studies, especially when dealing with the extralinguistic aspects of translation practice. Using Gilles Fauconnier s Theory of Mental Spaces (1985) as an analytical tool, the work presents a new and original methodology, capable of integrating cognition, language and culture, demonstrating how the meaning of translations is influenced by translators Idealized Cognitive Models (ICMs). The research contributes to Translation Studies by offering an approach that seeks to overcome the dichotomy between form and content, while filling two gaps: the scarcity of studies on Brazilian translations of Jane Austen and the limited application of Cognitive Linguistics in the field of Translation Studies.
