[pt] O ressurgimento do extremismo político da direita ao redor do mundo marcou o cenário político da primeira metade do século XXI e se destacou com um discurso enfático da liberdade de expressão. No Brasil, o símbolo principal desse fenômeno político, o bolsonarismo, transforma o discurso da liberdade de expressão em instrumento de justificação de suas ações, que infringem as normas legais em vigor. Não é por acaso que tal discurso atravessa seus discursos políticos. Este artigo pretende desvendar a função do discurso da liberdade de expressão enquanto operador ideológico no universo simbólico do extremismo político da direita, ao confrontá-lo com sua conceitualização na teoria da democracia deliberativa, elaborada por Jürgen Habermas. Espera-se, desse modo, lançar luz sobre o aspecto ideológico do discurso da liberdade de expressão defendida pela extrema direita, assim como a sua devida importância no contexto da democracia.

[en] The resurgence of right-wing political extremism around the world has marked the political landscape of the first half of the twenty-first century, standing out for its emphatic discourse on freedom of expression. In Brazil, the main symbol of this political phenomenon - bolsonarism - turns the discourse of freedom of expression into an instrument for justifying its own actions, which infringe upon existing legal norms. It is no coincidence that this discourse permeates its political rhetoric. This article aims to uncover the function of the discourse of freedom of expression as an ideological operator within the symbolic universe of right-wing political extremism, by confronting it with its conceptualization in Jurgen Habermas s theory of deliberative democracy. In doing so, it seeks to shed light on the ideological aspect of the far right s discourse on freedom of expression, as well as its significance within the broader context of democracy.
