Resumo
[en] This study investigates the application of the Teaching/Learning Cycle (TLC), as proposed by
the Sydney School, in a private EFL tutoring context, with a focus on the development of
student s active participation and autonomy. The goal of this study was to better understand
how the theory translated into practice, and how student engagement would be affected by the
use of a genre-based pedagogical framework. Oriented by ethnographic principles, data was
collected through classroom activities and notes, and analysed in alignment with the
interpretivist tradition. The findings point to an increase in the student s participation as an
active builder of her own knowledge through the critical use of the TLC. This study adds to the
vast and multiple body of knowledge in the fields of Applied Linguistics and Genre Studies.
