[pt] Defende-se, nesta tese, que qualquer evento percebido como real deve ser concebido e representado como parte de um mundo estruturado por relações causais. A percepção de um evento e o conteúdo singular dos pensamentos sobre ele exigem a capacidade de discriminar entre (a) modificações na subjetividade (como mudanças de atenção, erros perceptuais ou alterações de perspectiva) e (b) alterações objetivas no mundo externo. Essas habilidades discriminatórias são essenciais para distinguir eventos reais de imaginários, ou da percepção de objetos materiais que não sofrem mudanças em suas propriedades intrínsecas. Além disso, o sujeito deve ser capaz de identificar e rastrear o particular que percebe, entendendo também o que consistiria tal identificação em situações contrafactuais. Essas habilidades estão diretamente relacionadas à experiência e à representação do tempo objetivo, permitindo ao sujeito perceber e interpretar eventos como sucessivos ou como simultâneos. Argumenta-se em favor de uma forma de conceitualismo, afirmando que as capacidades conceituais — como a habilidade de entender e formular juízos causais — são pré-requisitos para representar o conteúdo singular. Embora conceitos causais não façam necessariamente parte do conteúdo da experiência sensorial em si, sua posse é condição necessária para a intencionalidade dos pensamentos empíricos. Assim, esta tese inclui a experiência temporal de relações causais objetivas entre as condições para pensamentos singulares demonstrativos sobre o mundo.

[en] This dissertation argues that any event perceived as real must be conceived and represented as part of a world structured by causal relations. The perception of an event and the singular content of thoughts about it, I argue, require the ability to discriminate between (a) subjective changes (such as shifts of attention, perceptual errors, or changes in perspective) and (b) objective changes in the external world. These discriminatory abilities are, in my view, essential for distinguishing real events from imaginary ones, or from the perception of material objects that do not undergo changes in their intrinsic properties. Furthermore, a subject must be able to identify and keep track of what it perceives, and even to understand what constitutes such identification in counterfactual scenarios. These abilities are tied to the experience and representation of objective time, allowing the subject to perceive and interpret events as successive or simultaneous. I argue for a form of conceptualism, claiming that conceptual capacities — such as the ability to understand and form causal judgments — are prerequisites for the representation of singular content. While causal concepts are not necessarily part of the content of sensory experience itself, their possession underlies the intentionality of empirical thought. Thus, I take the temporal experience of objective causal relations to be part of the conditions for demonstrative singular thought about the world.
