[pt] A pesquisa aborda o caminho histórico do ministério diaconal. A hipótese é a utilização da história como ferramenta para compreender a fisionomia deste ministério na atualidade. O diaconado se desenvolveu na Igreja desde os tempos primevos. Conheceu um período de apogeu que, ao mesmo tempo, contribuiu para um processo de esvaziamento. Desde o século X, passou a existir apenas como transição ao presbiterado. Assim permaneceu por cerca de um milênio. Ainda no Concílio de Trento, a Igreja reclamou sua estabilidade. Contudo, o contexto não reuniu forças para o restabelecimento. Somente no século XX, com o Concílio Vaticano II, é que o diaconado foi restabelecido à modo estável. O restabelecimento foi do princípio de seu serviço. Esse fato abre a possibilidade de alguma evolução, porém, nos limites da tradição eclesial. O tema da pesquisa sugere a divisão em três capítulos. No primeiro se busca a fundamentação neotestamentária e a consolidação registrada por alguns autores e documentos antigos. Também se faz um aceno ao diaconado feminino. O segundo capítulo trilha o caminho do declínio com a interpretação das hipóteses do esvaziamento. A dissertação aponta como hipótese os conflitos e a sacerdotalização do ministério, a perda do serviço administrativo/caritativo e a vinculação da continência e do celibato. O terceiro capítulo, centro da pesquisa, mostra o caminho do restabelecimento do diaconado à modo permanente e seu reposicionamento como parte do sacramento da ordem. Tal reposicionamento requer a superação de uma exigência eficientista e meramente pastoral, e busca consolidar sua real cidadania como ministério de serviço.

[en] This research addresses the historical journey of the diaconal ministry. The hypothesis is the use of history as a tool to understand the current profile of this ministry. The diaconate has developed in the Church since its earliest times. It experienced a period of flourishing which, at the same time, contributed to a process of decline. Since the 10th century, it came to exist only as a transitional stage to the presbyterate. It remained this way for about a millennium. Even at the Council of Trent, the Church called for its stability. However, the context did not gather sufficient strength for its restoration. Only in the 20th century, with the Second Vatican Council, was the diaconate restored in a stable form. The restoration was to the principle of its service. This fact opens the possibility for some evolution, though within the limits of ecclesial tradition. The research topic suggests a division into three chapters. The first seeks the New Testament foundations and the consolidation recorded by some authors and ancient documents. It also includes a reference to the female diaconate. The second chapter traces the path of decline with the interpretation of the hypotheses for its diminution. The dissertation points to conflicts and the sacerdotalization of the ministry, the loss of its administrative/charitable service, and the association with continence and celibacy as hypotheses. The third chapter, the core of the research, shows the path of the restoration of the diaconate as a permanent ministry and its repositioning as part of the sacrament of Holy Orders. Such repositioning requires overcoming a merely utilitarian and pastoral demand, aiming instead to consolidate its true identity as a ministry of service.
