[pt] Ao destacar a contribuição da historiadora, filósofa e antropóloga Lélia Gonzalez para a institucionalização do design social no âmbito da educação em design no Brasil, este estudo constitui um preâmbulo histórico acerca do papel desempenhado pela docente nos cursos de graduação do antigo Departamento de Artes, atualmente nomeado Artes e Design, da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro PUC-Rio. A integração entre revisão de literatura e pesquisa documental parametriza o resgate do aporte teórico da intelectual e ativista dos movimentos negro e feminista para o conceito basilar de design social enquanto abordagem pedagógica, na primeira metade da década de 1980. Notadamente, o pensamento anticolonial e vanguardista da acadêmica se expressa no Manifesto de Design Social. Em razão das emergências contemporâneas, o campo do design demanda historiografia crítica no contexto latino-americano, também sob o enfoque da pedagogia decolonial com o acréscimo do legado de Lélia Gonzalez.

[en] By highlighting the contribution of historian, philosopher and anthropologist LéliaGonzalez towards the institutionalisation of social design in the realm of designeducation in Brazil, this study constitutes a historical preamble to the role played bythe professor in the undergraduate courses of the then called Department of Artsand currently named Arts and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio deJaneiro PUC-Rio. The integration of literature review and documentary researchparameterises the recovery of the theoretical contribution of the intellectual andactivist of the black and feminist movements for the basic concept of social designas a pedagogical approach, in the first half of the 1980. Notably, the anticolonial andavant garde thinking of the scholar is expressed in the Social Design Manifesto. Inview of contemporary emergencies, the field of design demands critical historiographyin the Latin American context, as well as focusing on decolonial pedagogy with theaddition of the legacy of Lélia Gonzalez.
