[pt] O artigo analisa o processo de adaptação do personagem Diabo/Regan do
romance O Exorcista (1971), de William Peter Blatty, para o filme homônimo
dirigido por William Friedkin em 1973. Fundamentado nas abordagens
teóricas de Hutcheon (2013) e Cattrysse (1992), o estudo investiga como as
escolhas do diretor influenciaram significativamente a transposição da obra
literária para o cinema. A pesquisa destaca, ainda, a importância de
considerar os contextos temporais e espaciais que envolveram tanto a
produção quanto a publicação das obras, evidenciando que tais fatores
impactam diretamente as estratégias de adaptação e a recepção do enredo
em diferentes mídias.
Resumo
[en] This article analyzes the adaptation process of the Devil/Regan character
from the novel The Exorcist (1971) by William Peter Blatty to the eponymous
1973 film directed by William Friedkin. Grounded in the theoretical
frameworks of Hutcheon (2013) and Cattrysse (1992), the study examines
how the director s choices significantly influenced the transition from
literature to cinema. The research also emphasizes the importance of
considering the temporal and spatial contexts surrounding both the
production and publication of the works, highlighting how these factors
directly impact adaptation strategies and the reception of the narrative
across different media.
