[pt] O ensaio teórico aborda a tradução literária, especificamente a tradução de poesia, e os desafios impostos por esse processo intelectual e criativo. Exige-se, do tradutor, um amplo conhecimento sobre as línguas envolvidas, para subsidiar tomadas de decisão quanto às situações fonológicas, semânticas, métricas e rítmicas. Após reflexões sobre questões linguísticas (com foco em Roman Jakobson) e filosóficas (baseadas em Walter Benjamin), expõem-se as discussões e proposições de dois poetas-tradutores, Octavio Paz e Haroldo de Campos. Os procedimentos analisados celebram o vigor da poesia e seu eco inventivo em muitas línguas.

[en] The theoretical essay addresses literary translation, specifically the translation of poetry, and the challenges posed by this intellectual and creative process. The translator is required to have extensive knowledge about the languages involved, to support the decisions regarding phonological, semantic, metric, and rhythmic situations. After analyzing linguistic themes (with a focus on Roman Jakobson) and philosophical topics (based on Walter Benjamin), the propositions of two poet-translators, Octavio Paz and Haroldo de Campos, are exposed. The procedures investigated celebrate the vigor of poetry and its inventive echo in many languages.
