[pt] O presente trabalho apresenta o importante papel que a nova definição de Ser como dynamis, apresentada no Sofista (247e), desempenha na nova ontologia exposta no diálogo. Antes dessa passagem, no entanto, o Estrangeiro de Eleia empreende uma investigação que visa colocar sob exame as principais teses ontológicas daquela época. A nosso ver, torna-se imprescindível a análise da investigação empreendida pelo Estrangeiro, bem como de suas implicações para o estabelecimento da nova definição expressa em 247e. O artigo está dividido em quatro seções: a) a primeira, contextua a necessidade da investigação sobre o Ser; b) a segunda, examina os argumentos lançados sobre a tese monista; c) a terceira se detém sobre a célebre passagem da gigantomaquia (246a-249b) e à primeira menção da definição de ser ali proposta; d) a quarta seção se dedica a mostrar como a definição de Ser como dynamis exerce um importante papel no paradoxo dos aprendizes tardios e possibilidade de comunicação entre os gêneros. Com base nisso, espera-se com as considerações finais reconhecer o importante papel exercido da definição Ser como dynamis no estabelecimento dos gêneros supremos.

[en] This paper presents the important role that the new definition of Being as dynamis, presented in the Sophist (247e), plays in the new ontology set out in the dialogue. Before this passage, however, the Eleatic Stranger undertakes an investigation aimed at examining the main ontological theses of that time. In our opinion, it is essential to analyze the investigation undertaken by the Stranger, as well as its implications for the establishment of the new definition expressed in 247e. The article is divided into four sections: a) the first contextualizes the need for an investigation into Being; b) the second examines the arguments launched against the monist thesis; c) the third focuses on the famous passage on the gigantomachia and the first mention of the definition of being proposed there; d) the fourth section is dedicated to showing how the definition of Being as dynamis plays an important role in the paradox of the late apprentices and the possibility of communication between the genders. Based on this, the final considerations hope to recognize the important role played by the definition Being as dynamis in the establishment of the supreme genres.
