Resumo
[pt] O texto apresenta os argumentos do artigo Weber e a interpretação do Brasil (1999a), de Luiz Werneck Vianna,
ressaltando a relação entre as dualidades que permeiam as análises sobre o processo de modernização e a recepção de
Weber. Em um segundo momento, analisa como Jessé Souza deu continuidade ao tema em seu artigo A ética
protestante e a ideologia do atraso brasileiro (1998). Por último, pontua-se, brevemente, a tensão entre as noções
dualistas e a concepção de processos de longa duração.
Resumo
[en] The text presents the arguments of the article Weber and the interpretation of Brazil, by Luiz Werneck Vianna, highlighting the relationship between the dualities that permeate the analyzes of the modernization process and the reception of Weber. Secondly, it analyzes how Jessé Souza continued the theme in his article Protestant ethics and the ideology of Brazilian backwardness. Finally, the tension between dualist notions and the conception of long-term processes is briefly highlighted.
