[pt] Este artigo objetiva evidenciar as contradições socioeconômicas presentes na Amazônia paraense, particularmente, nas cidades de Parauapebas, Oriximiná e Itaituba. A partir do aporte teórico marxista, e com base em autores que tratam da particularidade amazônica, discute-se o processo de ocupação da Amazônia e a instalação de grandes projetos na região. Para isso, foram levantados dados em bases do Governo Federal a fim de demonstrar as desigualdades de renda presentes nos três municípios. Como resultado, a discussão e os dados demonstram uma significativa presença da pobreza em contraste aos grandes lucros das empresas que se apropriam do território e dos recursos naturais da região Norte.

[en] This article aims to highlight the socio-economic contradictions present in the Amazon region of Pará, particularly in the cities of Parauapebas, Oriximiná and Itaituba. Using a Marxist theoretical framework, and based on authors who deal with the particularities of the Amazon region, it discusses the process of occupation of the Amazon and the installation of projects in the region. In addition, data was collected from the Federal Government to demonstrate the income inequalities present in the three municipalities. The discussion and the data show a significant presence of poverty in contrast to the large profits of the companies that appropriate the territory and natural resources.
