[pt] Este artigo pretende abordar a literatura regionalista tendo em vista a
questão da intraduzibilidade, conceito abordado por Bárbara Cassin, em O
elogio da tradução. Considerando os problemas da aclimatação do realismo,
bem como as fortes críticas da historiografia literária nacional ao problema
da linguagem no regionalismo, este artigo aborda o tema a partir de três
frentes: 1) mapeamento da visão da historiografia literária nacional; 2) o
problema da aclimatação do realismo; 3) a tradução como uma possibilidade
interpretativa através do conceito de intraduzibilidade. A hipótese é de
que pensar o regionalismo como tradução, seja do realismo europeu, seja do
campo ou do sertão, reelabora a perene dialética entre forma e matéria,
narrador culto e personagem iletrado, e metrópole e colônia.

[en] This essay aims to approach regionalist literature with a view to the issue of
untranslatability, a concept addressed by Bárbara Cassin in Éloge de la
traduction. Considering the problems of acclimatizing realism, as well as the
strong criticisms of national literary historiography regarding the problem
of language in regionalism, this essay addresses the topic from three fronts:
1) mapping the vision of national literary historiography; 2) the problem of
acclimatizing realism; 3) translation as an interpretative possibility through
the concept of untranslatability. The hypothesis is that thinking about
regionalism as a translation, whether of European realism, countryside, or
hinterland, re-elaborates the perennial dialectic between form and content,
cultured narrator and illiterate character, and metropolis and colony.
