[pt] Estudar um autor como Friedrich Max Müller requer muitos cuidados. Em
parte, pela expressividade de sua atuação na constituição do colonialismo
britânico sobre a Índia, durante a segunda metade do século XIX. Em parte,
por sua produção intelectual dividida em diferentes campos do
conhecimento. Mas uma faceta fundamental que constituiu a persona de
Max Müller durante sua carreira foi a de editor e tradutor de textos sânscritos
antigos. Neste artigo, pretendemos investigar os caminhos através dos quais
podemos situar o Müller tradutor no contexto do colonialismo.
Resumo
[en] To study such an author like Friedrich Max Müller requires many
precautions. partly because of the largeness of his agency in the constitution
of British Colonialism over India, during the second half of the XIXth century.
Partly because of his intellectual production divided into different fields. But
a fundamental part that constituted Max Müller s persona during his career
was that of editor and translator of ancient Sanskrit texts. In this paper we
shall investigate the ways through which we can situate the translator Müller
in the context of colonialism.
