[pt] O objetivo deste trabalho é investigar a fundação da comunidade humana através das semelhanças entre os pensamentos de Sigmund Freud e Thomas Hobbes. Nossa proposta não é igualar as proposições dos autores, apagando as diferenças existentes entre um e outro, mas compreender a influência da filosofia hobbesiana em um dos pensadores mais inventivos do século XX. A distância de três séculos entre eles ressalta a contínua relevância da metodologia filosófica política de Hobbes na busca pelo sentido da ação humana e na construção de um repertório discursivo sobre o mundo social. Demonstraremos como o processo de utilização da psicanálise como instrumento de análise social por Freud — especialmente nas obras Totem e Tabu (1913), Psicologia de Grupo e a Análise do Ego (1921) e O Mal-Estar na Civilização (1930) — se assemelha ao caminho desenhado por Hobbes em O Leviatã (1651), que vai do homem e sua natureza desejante à necessidade de um contrato comum possibilitado pela figura do soberano. Nossa análise terá como foco três pontos de intersecção entre as teorias dos dois autores. Estes pontos são: indivíduo como fundamento de inteligibilidade do social e o papel da auto-observação como instrumento de conhecimento sobre o humano; o conflito entre indivíduo e civilização que contraria a tese do humano como animal essencialmente político; a necessidade de uma figura de autoridade - pai em Freud e soberano em Hobbes - na passagem da natureza à cultura.

[en] The aim of this paper is to investigate the foundation of the human community through the similarities between the thoughts of Sigmund Freud and Thomas Hobbes. Our intention is not to equate the propositions of these authors, erasing the differences between them, but to understand the influence of Hobbesian philosophy on one of the most inventive thinkers of the 20th century. The three-century gap between them highlights the ongoing relevance of Hobbes s political philosophical methodology in the search for the meaning of human action and in the construction of a discursive repertoire about the social world. We will demonstrate how Freud s use of psychoanalysis as a tool for social analysis—particularly in the works Totem and Taboo (1913), Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego (1921), and Civilization and Its Discontents (1930)—resembles the path outlined by Hobbes in Leviathan (1651), which moves from man and his desiring nature to the necessity of a common contract enabled by the figure of the sovereign. Our analysis will focus on three points of intersection between the theories of these two authors. These points are: the individual as the foundation of social intelligibility and the role of self-observation as a tool for knowledge about the human; the conflict between the individual and civilization, which contradicts the thesis of humans as essentially political animals; the necessity of an authority figure - father in Freud and sovereign in Hobbes - in the transition from nature to culture.
