[pt] O objetivo desse artigo é abordar no pensamento de São João Crisóstomo a questão da concentração de bens e a ganância, as quais trazem como consequência a miséria e a fome de muitos. A partir do resgate de algumas obras literárias deste Padre da Igreja, bem como de textos bíblicos que se referem ao tema, este artigo parte das indagações: é possível aceitar a miséria de muitos como algo normal? Como algo que é fruto da vontade divina? Diante da ganância e da miséria com que tinha que conviver constantemente em seu tempo, Crisóstomo, de maneira profética, denuncia e adverte constantemente tal realidade, quando, em suas homilias fala diretamente àqueles que, segundo seu ponto de vista, zombam de Deus ao se aproximarem do altar com faces piedosas, porém, com atitude hipócrita. Abordar este tema nos nossos dias se justifica pelo fato de que a realidade atual não diverge do quadro social que vivia o antioqueno. Por conta disso, cabe hodiernamente a provocação e convocação para que tal tema se transforme novamente em preocupação teológica com impacto no âmbito eclesial.

[en] The purpose of this article is to address – in the thought of St. John Chrysostom – the question of the concentration of goods and greed, which bring consequences misery and hunger of many. From the rescue of some literary works of this Father of the Church, as well as biblical texts that refer to the theme, this article starts from the questions: is it possible to accept the misery of many as something normal? As something that is the fruit of the divine will? Faced with the greed and misery with which he had to live constantly in his time, Chrysostom, in a prophetic way, constantly denounces and warns of this reality, when, in his homilies, he speaks directly to those who, according to his point of view, mock God when they approach the altar with pious faces, but with a hypocritical attitude. Addressing this theme in our days is justified by the fact that the current reality does not diverge from the social framework in the time the Antiochene lkived. Because of this, it is fitting today to provoke and call for this theme to become again a theological concern with an impact on the ecclesial sphere.
