[pt] A proposta deste artigo foi reunir e analisar um corpus de dois livros e dois filmes que tenham tradutores e intérpretes como protagonistas, de modo a determinar as imagens da profissão que se formam a partir dessas representações. As obras foram analisadas à luz dos estudos sobre tradutores e intérpretes ficcionais desenvolvidos por Lawrence Venuti (2008), Klaus Kaindl (2016), Michael Cronin (2009), Rosemary Arrojo (2018), Nitsa Ben-Ari (2010) e Dirk Delabastita e Rainer Grutman (2005). Embora a tradução, tanto a escrita como a oral, seja uma atividade milenar, seus praticantes permanecem, em grande parte, invisíveis socialmente e pouco valorizados. A presença de tradutores e intérpretes em filmes e livros, e também a forma como aparecem em ilustrações e fotos, sem dúvida contribui para torná-los um pouco mais visíveis e para construir ou reproduzir imagens públicas da profissão. Consideramos que essas representações ficcionais, embora subjetivas, interessam aos Estudos da Tradução na medida em que ajudam no entendimento teórico dos fenômenos tradutórios, assim como na avaliação de como a tradução e os tradutores se inserem na sociedade e por ela são percebidos.

[en] The purpose of this article was to gather and analyze a corpus of two books and two films that have translators and interpreters as protagonists, in order to determine the images of their profession that such representations create. The analysis of the corpus was informed by research into translators and interpreters conducted by Lawrence Venuti (2008), Klaus Kaindl (2016), Michael Cronin (2009), Rosemary Arrojo (2018), Nitsa Ben-Ari (2010) e Dirk Delabastita e Rainer Grutman (2005). Although translation, both written and oral, is an ancient activity, to this day its practitioners remain largely invisible and undervalued in society. The presence of translators and interpreters in films and books, as well as the way they are portrayed in illustrations and photos, undoubtedly contributes to making them a little more visible and to building or reproducing public images of their activity. We consider that such fictional representations, although subjective, are of interest to Translation Studies insofar as they help in the theoretical understanding of translation phenomena, as well as in the evaluation of how translation and its practitioners fit into society and are perceived by it.
