[pt] As origens da literatura cristã foram marcadas pelo ideal de perfeição pelo qual as pessoas que se associavam ao cristianismo encontravam, no martírio, a motivação mais nobre para a sua comunhão mística com Deus. Muitos são os indícios da aproximação conceitual entre os argumentos trazidos pelos autores cristãos e escritores renomados da retórica romana, num cenário que ainda carecia de referências que ultrapassassem as menções aos textos do Antigo Testamento ou as tradições orais oriundas do ensinamento de Cristo e dos Apóstolos. O apelo às virtudes aproxima o cristão que precisa dialogar para se defender nos tribunais estatais, a perfeição ultrapassa os limites socioculturais das classes intelectuais e a santidade alcança status universais, democratizada não pela exigência excessiva sobre o a capacidade do homem se superar, mas pela ajuda que esse obtém do próprio Deus, como fonte de todos os bens e de todas as virtudes. Aplica-se o pensamento dos Padres da Igreja sobre o chamado universal à santidade como uma proposta de análise textual do Sermão da Montanha.

[en] The beginning of Christian literature has been accompanied by the ideal of perfection through which people associated to Christianity found in the martyrdom the most noble motivations for their mystical communion with God. The argumentation built by both Christian Writers and famous Roman Rectors traces back to many common concepts, within a context that lacks references that overwhelmed the oldtestamentary mentions and the oral newtestamentary traditions as those that Jesus and his Apostles had taught. The call to virtue brought the one who needs to dialogue with pagans close to them in order to defend themselves at court. Perfection overstepped sociocultural limits of the high-educated men. Holiness reached universal status, democratized not by tough exigencies of a human capacity to overcome itself, but by the help God offers to him as source of all goods and all virtues. The thought of the Father of the Church about the universal call to holiness is to be updated as a proposal of textual analysis of the Sermon of the Mount.
