[pt] Este artigo descreve uma breve história de como os Pais da Igreja manifestaram uma grande estima pelas Escrituras Sagradas. Por meio da compreensão do contexto histórico e teológico dos primeiros séculos da era cristã, percebe-se a importância das Escrituras Sagradas na atuação dos Pais da Igreja. As Escrituras foram lidas, citadas, pregadas, ensinadas e difundidas com entusiasmo e de maneira consistente pelos primeiros líderes cristãos. Além disso, a própria definição do cânon neotestamentário, bem como o estímulo ao uso de recursos de leitura e estudo, e o desenvolvimento de traduções, constituíram um profícuo trabalho realizado na época. Entre outros, Orígenes e Jerônimo se destacam no trabalho bíblico realizado. Tal realidade possibilitou que o cristianismo se desenvolvesse e se fortalecesse desde os primeiros momentos pós-apostólicos. A opção metodológica se fundamenta em revisão de literatura. Espera-se que estas reflexões contribuam com uma melhor compreensão da história e um melhor conhecimento da atuação dos Pais da Igreja, principalmente, a partir da perspectiva da relação deles com as Escrituras Sagradas.

[en] This article describes a brief history of how the Church Fathers expressed a great esteem for the Holy Scriptures. Through the understanding of the historical and theological context of the first centuries of the Christian era, the importance of the Holy Scriptures in the work of the Church Fathers is perceived. The Scriptures were read, quoted, preached, taught, and disseminated enthusiastically and consistently by early Christian leaders. Furthermore, the very definition of the New Testament canon, as well as encouragement to the use of reading and study resources, and the development of translations, constituted a fruitful work carried out at the time. Among others, Origen and Jerome stand out in the biblical work carried out. This reality made it possible for Christianity to develop and strengthen itself from the first post-apostolic times. The methodological option is based on a literature review. It is hoped that these reflections will contribute to a better understanding of history and a better understanding of the role of the Church Fathers, especially from the perspective of their relationship with the Holy Scriptures.
