[pt] Nas últimas décadas, a investigação sobre a desigualdade social vem ampliando o entendimento dessa condição, situando-a como um fenômeno multidimensional que ultrapassa a esfera econômica. Sob essa perspectiva, o presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir a proteção social, no contexto educacional, enquanto possível estratégia voltada para o enfrentamento das desigualdades socioeducacionais. Embasado nas pesquisas bibliográfica e documental, aponta, entre seus resultados, que a escola, enquanto instituição que protege, deve priorizar o aspecto formativo e o acesso a bens culturais, atendendo ao desafio da qualidade do ensino, constituindo-se, assim, instância fundamental no combate a tais desigualdades.

[en] In recent decades, the research on social inequality has broadened the understanding of this condition, placing it as a multidimensional phenomenon that goes beyond the economic sphere. From this perspective, the present article aims to discuss social protection in the educational context as a possible strategy to face socio-educational inequalities. Based on bibliographic and documentary research, it presents, among its results, that the school, as an institution that protects, should prioritize the formative aspect and the access to cultural goods, meeting the challenge of the quality of education, thus constituting a key factor in the fight against such inequalities.
