[pt] O presente estudo tem como objetivo discutir o tratamento do grau diminutivo sob perspectiva do cognitivismo e do gerativismo lexicalista, conduzindo à reflexão sobre as abordagens deste tema
gramatical no âmbito do ensino de Português como Segunda Língua para Estrangeiros, doravante
PL2E. O escopo deste artigo é analisar as características das duas correntes linguísticas, de modo
a propor uma abordagem adequada sobre o grau diminutivo, capaz de proporcionar uma
aprendizagem efetiva aos aprendizes. A partir da comparação dos pressupostos do lexicalismo e do cognitivismo, conclui-se que este se alinha aos interesses do trabalho com PL2E. Este estudo tem como embasamento teórico considerações feitas por Chomsky (1970), Jackendoff (1975),
Aronoff (1976) e Basílio (1980). Ao fim da discussão, encontram-se sugestões de aplicação didática para o desenvolvimento do grau diminutivo em aulas de Português Língua Estrangeira.

[en] This study aims to discuss the treatment of the diminutive from the perspective of cognitivism and generativism, leading to reflection on the approaches of this grammatical theme in the context
of teaching Portuguese as a Second Language, hereinafter PSL. The scope of this article is to analyze the characteristics of these two linguistic trends, in order to propose an adequate approach
to the diminutive, capable of providing effective learning for students. From the comparison of
the assumptions of lexicalism and cognitivism, it is concluded that cognitivism is in line with the interests of working with PSL. This study is based on theoretical considerations made by
Chomsky (1970), Jackendoff (1975), Aronoff (1976) and Basílio (1980). At the end of the discussion, suggestions for didactic application for the development of the diminutive in a PSL class are presented.
