[pt] Este trabalho pretende discutir o conceito de cartografia considerando-a não como a criação de imagens concretas da cidade, mas como um símbolo, um textoimagem-representação de fragmentos da cidade, uma possível leitura dentre tantas outras que compõem o discurso-cidade, ou seja, uma tentativa de ler o ilegível. Para isso, analisarei a exposição da artista plástica Rosângela Rennó, Rio Utópico, que ao olhar o mapa do Rio de Janeiro e ler os nomes das localidades, percebeu que seus sentidos expressavam algum ideal imaginário, tais como Pedacinho do Céu, Vila Esperança, Final Feliz, Jardim Paraíso, e pensou em criar um grande Rio utópico a partir da fotografia destes lugares. Identificando no meio urbano resistências à imposição de nomenclaturas oficiais e estereotipadas, a exposição entra na luta simbólica por meio da linguagem artística, buscando construir um novo repertório de palavras que estabeleçam novas metáforas para o discurso sobre as cidades. O nomear é um ato de construir mundo, de dar contorno e cor ao mundo, uma tentativa através da linguagem, portadora de uma possível esperança, dar sentido a uma leitura outra de mundo.

[en] This work intends to discuss the concept of cartography considering it not as the creation of concrete images of the city, but as a symbol, a text image representation of fragments of the city, a possible reading among many others that make up the discourse-city, that is, an attempt to read the illegible. In this regard, I will analyze the exhibition Rio Utópico by the plastic artist Rosângela Rennó, who, realizing that the names of the localities in the map of Rio such as Pedacinho do Céu, Vila Esperança, Final Feliz and Jardim Paraíso, express some imaginary ideal, thought of creating a great utopian Rio de Janeiro with the photography of these places. Identifying in the urban environment resistance to the imposition of official and stereotyped nomenclatures, the exhibition enters the symbolic struggle through artistic language, seeking to construct a new repertoire of words that establish new metaphors for the discourse on the cities. The act of naming is one of constructing the world, of giving color and contour to the world. Through language which bears a possible hope, it is an attempt of giving meaning to a different reading of the world.
