[en] This monograph aims at analyzing narratives and accounts produced by a group of non-professional military interpreters from the Brazilian Army who were assigned to the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) to carry out tasks of interpretation and translation from Portuguese to English and vice versa, in an effort to understand whether they could be seen as a community of practice in the terms proposed by Wenger (1998). The main purpose of this study was to check how the group carried out its missions without being professionals of the areas of interpretation and translation, how their members dealt with their difficulties and what they learned from the experience they had. The methodology used was the collection of interviews from three volunteers who took part in the mission, with the objective of studying their accounts, and narratives using the Labovian theoretical framework, making a correlation with the ideas of Community of Practice. Finally, my findings suggest that the group was working within the characteristics of a community of practice and their professional experience could be used as a reference not only for the military, but also for the academic setting.
