[pt] O presente estudo apresenta o conceito de família na contemporaneidade considerando as novas estruturas familiares hoje presentes na sociedade e os desafios colocados para a atuação do assistente social. Analisar-se-á mais intimamente as famílias reconstituídas, isto é, a família formada por um casal que já possui filho (os) de outras uniões. Este estudo permitiu concluir que apesar das mudanças ocorridas ao longo do tempo na vida familiar ela permanece transformada em uma pluralidade de formas e a atuação do assistente social no atendimento e acompanhamento às mesmas é compreendida na sua pluralidade colocando para os profissionais o desafio de atuar frente as mais variadas estruturas manifestas na sociedade contemporânea.

[en] The current study presents the concept of family in the contemporary society, considering the new family structures and the challenge for the performance of social assistants. The reconstituted family will be closely analyzed, which means the family formed by a couple that have children from previous relationships. This study concluded that despite the changes in family life over the years, it remains transformed in several ways and the role of the social assistant in attendance and accompaniment these changes is comprehended in its plurality, bringing to the professionals the challenge to perform in front of the most varied structures found in the contemporary society.
