[pt] Esta dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a narrativa de viagem em Imagens do Brasil, obra de autoria do alemão naturalizado brasileiro Carl von Koseritz, a partir de suas visitas às instituições civilizadoras situadas na Corte imperial brasileira, no ano de 1883. O trabalho parte da analogia entre o viajante enquanto um colecionador e entre sua obra enquanto uma exposição, de forma que, ao selecionar e coletar as imagens do Império na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, von Koseritz formaria uma coleção fragmentada de impressões sobre o Brasil que, posteriormente, viria a ser compartilhada e exposta a seu público leitor através da organização desses relatos de viagem em uma narrativa análoga à de uma exposição. A dissertação tem como foco principal os relatos de visita a museus, em específico ao Museu Imperial e Nacional e à Exposição Pedagógica, que permitirão investigar a forma como a viagem e a escrita de von Koseritz engendram uma identidade para seu autor e seus leitores por intermédio dessas instituições modelares, que sintetizam e emanam para o restante do país o projeto político de construção do Estado imperial calcado nos ideais de civilização, progresso e ordem.

[en] This dissertation aims to analyze the travel narrative in Images of Brazil, a book by Carl von Koseritz, a German citizen who acquired Brazilian nationality, starting from his visits to the civilizing institutions located in the Brazilian Imperial Court in the year 1883. The work sets an analogy between the traveler as a collector and between his book as an exhibition in a way that, when selecting and collecting the images of the Empire in the city of Rio de Janeiro, von Koseritz would form a fragmented collection of impressions of Brazil that would lately be shared and exposed to his reading public through the organization of these journal entries in a narrative similar to that of an exhibition. The dissertation focuses mainly on the journal entries regarding the visits to museums, specifically to the Imperial and National Museum and to the Pedagogical Exhibition, which will allow us to investigate how the voyage and the writing of von Koseritz create an identity for the author and his readers by means of these exemplary institutions that synthesize and radiate to the rest of the country the political project of construction of the Imperial State based on the ideals of civilization, progress, and order.
