[pt] Sistematização funcional dos sufixos avaliativos no português do Brasil investiga o emprego dos morfemas tradicionalmente conhecidos como aumentativos e diminutivos, tendo especialmente em vista seu processo de ensino-aprendizagem na área de português como segunda língua para estrangeiros (PL2E). Embora existam diversas formas de sufixos desse tipo, o trabalho optou por abordar apenas os mais produtivos, a saber, -(z)ão, -(z)aço e -(z)inho, e suas respectivas formas femininas, -(z)ona, -(z)aça e -(z)inha, uma vez que seu interesse é a língua portuguesa atualmente em uso. O principal objetivo desta dissertação é traçar uma formalização funcional de tais morfemas, tomando por base teórico-metodológica a Gramática Funcional do Discurso, recentemente arquitetada por Hengeveld (2004a e 2004b) a partir da Teoria da Gramática Funcional de Dik (1997b). Pretende-se, com isso, contribuir para uma maior eficiência do processo de ensino-aprendizagem de PL2E, bem como para uma reflexão acerca do português como língua materna que leve em conta o prisma do estrangeiro e permita, assim, estranhá-lo e compreendê-lo em todos os seus aspectos. A análise dos dados demonstra que o emprego desses sufixos extrapola o nível morfológico e mesmo o semântico, pois incide na realidade pragmática. Além disso, essa mesma análise indica que os sufixos avaliativos traduzem menos a idéia de aumento ou diminuição do que a de avaliação, o que põe em xeque a nomenclatura largamente utilizada, aumentativos e diminutivos, e ratifica a proposta de Rocha (1998), que os generaliza como sufixos avaliativos.

[en] Functional systematization of the evaluative suffixes in the Brazilian Portuguese language investigates the morphemes traditionally known as augmentative and diminutive, having in mind specially its process of teaching-learning process in the Portuguese field as a second language for foreigners (PL2E). Though there are several forms of suffixes of this type, this paper opted to approach only the most productive ones: -(z)ão, -(z)aço and - (z)inho, and its respective feminine forms, - (z)ona, -(z)aça and -(z)inha, once its interest is in present-day Portuguese in use. The principal objective of this paper is to draw a functional formalization of such morphemes, taking as theoricmethodological base the Functional Discourse Grammar, recently devised by Hengeveld (2004a and 2004b) from the Theory of Functional Grammar, by Dik (1997b). The author intends to contribute to a bigger efficiency of the teachinglearning process of PL2E, as well as to a reflection about Portuguese as mother language that takes into account the foreigner perspective and allows it, therefore, to find strange and to understand it in all its aspects. The data analysis demonstrates that the use of these suffixes exceeds both the morphologic and semantic level, once it incurs in the pragmatic reality. Besides, the same analysis indicates that the evaluative suffixes rather translate the idea of increase or reduction than that of evaluation, which calls into question the widely used nomenclature, augmentative and diminutive, and ratifies the proposal of Rocha (1998), which generalizes them as evaluative suffixes.
