[pt] Esta pesquisa investiga construções figurativas presentes nas letras de raps nacionais produzidos na última década, com vistas a compreender o seu valor como elementos de (des)construção identitária. Situa-se, por isso, em um ponto de confluência entre as seguintes vertentes: (a) estudos da identidade como criatura da linguagem; (b) estudos da figuratividade como fenômeno fundante na linguagem, no pensamento e na ação; e (c) estudos da música popular como elemento importante na constituição de identidades sociais. Partindo de uma visão não representacionista da linguagem, a análise aqui realizada indica que a linguagem do rap nacional produzido na última década dá mostras de uma tensão entre uma retórica implícita - discernível, por exemplo, em figuras ontológicas, espaciais e estruturais fossilizadas, associadas a uma série de predileções culturais bastante entranhadas - e uma retórica mais explícita, manifesta, sobretudo em um investimento deliberado de desestabilização e ressignificação dessas figuras cristalizadas. Este estudo traz duas conclusões principais e interligadas: considerada a amostra analisada, vimos, em primeiro lugar, que é característica marcante dessas figuras a sua propensão a uma volatilidade radical, sua tendência a frustrar sistematicamente resultados interpretativos estáveis; vimos, em segundo lugar, que, muito em parte por conta dessa própria volatilidade, elas desempenham um papel importante no que tange aos nossos processos identitários, misturando com freqüência o reforço e a desestabilização de oposições essencialistas culturalmente arraigadas, e proporcionando um reconhecimento menos dicotômico das identidades em jogo na cena sócio-cultural em foco.

[en] This dissertation investigates figurative constructions in Brazilian rap lyrics produced in the last decade, aiming at comprehending their value as elements of identity (de)construction. This research stands thus in a position that brings together the following intellectual developments: (a) studies of identity as a creature of language; (b) studies of figurativity as a founding phenomenon in language, thought, and action; and (c) studies of popular music as an important element in the constitution of the social identities. Under a non representationalist view of language, the analysis shows that Brazilian rap lyrics produced in the last decade manifest a tension between an implicit rhetoric - discernible, for example, on ontological, spatial and structural crystallized figures associated with a number of deep-rooted cultural predilections – and a more explicit rhetoric - manifested, above all, in a deliberate investment on the destabilization and resignification of such crystallized figures. This study has two principal and interconnected conclusions: considering the analyzed sample, we see, first, that a major characteristic of the examined figures is their propensity to a radical volatility, their tendency to systematically frustrate stable interpretive results; second, partly because of this very volatility, rap figures play an important role with respect to identitary processes, often blending reinforcement and destabilization of culturally entrenched oppositions, and allowing for a less dichotomic understanding of the identity interplay going on in the socio-cultural field in focus.
