[en] This work presents an exploratory discussion about reading practices based on the responses of the SOCED`s survey applied to students from prestigious schools of Rio de Janeiro. Considering reading habits, a good relationship with language and the cultivated language pattern dominion are considered components of the cultural capital structures valued by schools, it was investigated the student`s relationship with reading through their literary choices, based on the coding of the titles listed by the students. The analyses carried out led to infer that elite`s schools students maintain a reading habitus that comprehend various genres of national and foreign literature, both for youth and adult public. This work also proposes that the school influences the formation of readers, its maintenance and development.
