Thinking about, analysing and reconstructing the modes of so-called dominant masculinity in spaces such as Carnival requires a reflective exercise. A space recognised as primarily masculine, with certain characteristics, particularities, ways of acting, living and thinking about relationships, as aspects of a hegemonic identity, with its permissions and prohibitions. Inquiring into the diverse identities allows us to problematise the privileges that arise from the performativity of a dominant masculinity. In this paper I ask myself about this supposedly dominant masculinity in the Uruguayan Carnival based on the Instagram profile Varones Carnaval , as a result of reports of situations of gender-based violence in carnival settings. I also collect data from the ethnographic fieldwork of my Master s thesis oriented to the analysis of the processes of construction of identities of individuals who are part of a football club in San Carlos, Uruguay in relation to the practices of football and murga. In this way, I begin by presenting the profile of the social network and problematising a supposed culture of support , then I reflect on the performative character of masculinities and what these processes entail, and finally a reflection on the hegemonic character of these masculinities.
