The present work aims to raise the reasons that explain the intensification of the adoption of streaming services in recent years. It seeks to compare different formats of audiovisual entertainment, such as streaming platforms, cinemas and cable TV and what are their advantages and benefits, as well as the negative points of each. It surveys current consumer preferences, given changes in demand, technological changes and unpredictable situations, such as the coming of the Covid-19 pandemic. To achieve the established objectives, exploratory research was carried out with the application of a structured questionnaire and analyzes using descriptive statistics. Audiovisual streaming platform services stand out as a format preference for respondents when watching audiovisual content. The reasons that lead to this decision are diverse, such as the flexibility that these platforms offer, compared to cinema and cable TV formats, the greater cost-benefit, practicality, the greater variety of content and, now, an access also faster to releases. Despite this, the cinema is still considered a desired space for respondents to watch, for example, a movie they are waiting for or well rated by critics, due to the complete experience that the cinema is capable of providing: darkroom, quality image and sound, between others. The consumption of streaming services increased with the pandemic, there was an increase in subscriptions, however, when speculating about the future, the question remains of how these platforms can maintain themselves in the face of the end of the pandemic, the high level of unemployment and the fall of the average income of the population.
