Resumo:
Fiberglass fabric is a material composed of several glass filaments in an orthotropic manner to resist the stresses projected onto the object. When laminated using some type of resin, an extremely strong and lightweight composite material is formed. Fiberglass laminates are used in the most diverse applications due to their easy moldability, ability to increase strength at specific points depending on the directions of their fibers. The best known applications are in shipbuilding, wind power blades, surfboard manufacturing, sinks, bathtubs, swimming pools, and in the aeronautical industry. Due to the orthotropy, an object or part can be designed, using the same material, with different purposes. Depending on the proportions and directions of the fiber, the material becomes more resistant in one direction than in another, meeting the design specifications. This study aims to analyze the degradation of glass fiber composite when exposed to high salinization environments (4% to 6% NaCl) and high temperatures for long periods of time, which is the case in several of the applications mentioned above. The effects caused were observed both in relation to the loss of mechanical properties evaluated by three-point bending test, and in relation to coloration.
