Resumo:
This paper originates in NELC (Nucleus for Language and
Cognition Studies), at UNICAP, and aims to analyze the
discourse of the trainee Psychology student, in particular
when changes of study venue occur, to the extent that the
student goes from being in a dominated situation,
within the context of the classroom, to a situation of
exercising domination,when rendering services in the
university clinic. In both situations, an assymetrical
relationship occurs (one participant has more power than
the other). The study venues are seen as the use or not of
the word by one of the speakers, besides this being the
basic condition for there to be a conversation. Three
aspects of the change of study venue were analyzed:
the concessions - the speaker concedes the word to the
interlocutor; the superpositions - more than one person
speaks at the same time - and the flashes of temper - there
is a brusque taking over of the study venue.
The objective of this paper, therefore, is to investigate,
based on the changes of study venue, at what moment the
discourse shows dominating characteristics and on what
occasions these changes take place, since the person who
exercises power determines who can or should say, what
and at what moment. Data were collected for this on
recordings made in the classroom and in the school-clinic,
in a total of nine Psychology course groups (from the 3rd
to 11th period). The data transcription model used for
the analysis of the study venues was that set out by
Marcuschi (1988). The analysis of the study periods running
from the 3rd to 10th, referring to the classroom, indicated
that, during the whole time that the student is in
the dominated position, whether under the control of the
venues or the type of topic dealt with, as well as for the
greater part of the time in the classroom, they remain in
the power of the teacher. In addition, there is
almost no interaction between the students on the subjects
discussed in class. From the moment that students are in
the environment of the schoolclinic (11th period), the
power relationship changes, as they start to control
the interaction, and, despite not speaking much, it is the
trainee who begins and ends each consultation, thus
characterizing power.
