Antoine Berman can be considered a canonical author in Translation Studies in Brazil. However, paradoxically, a very clear cut appears when looking at his works studied / cited in the country. The reading of his thought is based mainly on three books: The experience of the foreigner, La traduction et la lettre ou l auberge du lointain, and Toward A Translation Criticism: John Donne. Other works by the translation theorist, books and essays, remain poorly read and / or remain unpublished in Portuguese, constituting valuable bibliographic material still little explored (CARDOZO, 2015). In addition to a quantitative aspect, these texts seem to be studied in isolation (PETRY, 2011). Thus, I propose here a reflection on a central concept of his thought - the Platonic translation - presented in the work La traduction et la lettre in a still incomplete form. Berman, as he says, leaves it practically aside because his study would take it too far (2012, p. 35). As it is the second most cited book by the author, I then seek to deepen this concept based on an essay by Ber-man himself entitled L essence platonique de la traduction, published in 1986, whose translation I have just finished (in press). Given the fragmented characteristic of his work, the objective of this research is to contribute, mod-estly, to the access to these unpublished texts and to a more embracing and relational reading of his work.
