The situation of the child with Down syndrome refers to issues that include the complexity of the contemporary world, where values of inclusion clash with those in the culture that favor appearance and efficiency, leading many individuals to aversive behavior toward People who do not follow the dominant patterns. The school inclusion project has as basic principle the incorporation of students with individual needs in regular education, making the figure of the school mediator appear as a professional who assists the child in the process of affective and academic adaptation. However, asserting the right to education for all is not limited to simply applying the law indiscriminately to school situations. It is noted that, along with a new approach on the disabled, the issue of segregation as well as the stigmas and prejudices attributed to these people are still strongly rooted in schools and society in general. From the follow-up of a child with Down syndrome, this paper aims to analyze the role of the psychologist as a school mediator considering the importance of the environment for the emotional and cognitive development of the child. We refer to the ideas of Freud, Winnicott, and Ferenczi, who attached great importance to the beginnings of psychic life and the importance of the environment in the construction of subjectivity. It is sought to emphasize the importance of care ethics as fundamental in the establishment and maintenance of school mediation work. The mediator is considered as one who would need to focus on the exploration of the potential space between him and his mediating and, through this, inaugurate a relaxed and playful space in which creativity, spontaneity and trust should be contemplated for the purpose Of transmitting and developing the teaching and learning process in a more pleasurable way for the child. Legislation and educational guidelines that point to the right to regular schooling is paramount, but only profound changes in relationships, in the various social facilities, and in the practices linked to them, can, in fact, ensure another social place for disabled people.
