Resumo:
The man is a moral being by his own rational nature. The experience of the appeal of the good, which echoes in his own conscience, and the consequent free and conscious response to this good, are facts present in the life of all men, whether he is a Christian or not. This means that moral experience is human and not a prerogative of the believer. On the other hand, from the incarnation of Christ, the Christian faith intends to offer to this human experience the possibility of fullness in Jesus. Because of this proposal, the question arises whether the Christian proposal would have something of its own that the human being, by its natural dispositions, would not achieve. In other words, we are faced with the question whether human moral experience, as an appeal to the good and a free and conscious response to it, needs the Christian framework to bring man to its fullness. This article seeks to refl ect on these issues by refl ecting on human moral experience from New Testament Christology, especially from the Christological hymn of the letter to the Colossians, and from the Anthropology of the Gaudium et spes document of the Second Vatican Council.
