Resumo:
This work aims to create a methodology to minimize the stress concentrator of notched parts, aiming to increase the life to the fatigue of these. Fatigue is a mechanical failure primarily caused by the application of time-varying loads, the main characteristic of which is the generation and / or progressive growth of a crack. Fatigue fracture is a cumulative and localized process. The crack nucleus at the critical component location, which depends on the geometric details at that location. The life to the fatigue until final fracture is divided in two phases: the one of nucleation and the one of growth of the crack. The initiation of the crack is caused primarily by the amplitude and the value of the maximum stress, which depends strongly on geometric details, that is, on the stress concentration factor. In this context, fatigue life is appreciably affected by the maximum stress acting on the structure . With this in mind, Optimization techniques implemented in MATLAB software were adopted to minimize the stress concentrator of notched parts. The notched profiles were defined by a cubic Bérzier curve with 4 control points. The tensions were calculated by a finite element code. The optimization function receives the stresses and modifies the positions of the control points in such a way that the objective function is minimized. In this sense, the objective function adopted was the tension of Von Mises. Finally, two fatigue sizing is done, one following the SN technique and another adopting EN, of the original and optimized geometries.
