Resumo:
Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors has shown a significant growth in the latest years, especially in the industrial sector due to its versatility and measurement capability. Being important in different technological areas for the creation of monitoring systems, because of its benefits over conventional sensors. Among the advantages of the FBG are the immunity to electromagnetic interference, small dimensions, low weight, and easy installation, making this type of sensor ideal in many applications, like buildings and industrials processes. However, improvements in sensor reliability and accuracy continue to be critical parameters for the implementation of this technology, because of its high cost and the sensor can be improved by the effect of mechanical and optical characteristics of the fiber. The present work had as objectives: studying the Fiber Bragg Grating sensor, building a measurement apparatus for testing the FBG and an electric strain gage, comparing them. The methodology used consisted in experiments to calibrate the sensors temperature. It was verified in the results that to make measurements with FBG it is necessary to monitor the variation of temperature and apply a correction to the acquired data. It is concluded that the results obtained were favorable to the experiment in question, since the corrected FBG strain measurement varied less with the temperature than the strain gage.
