Resumo:
The RFID technology uses radio frequency signals to identify and track down objects. This technology has been developed quickly, and it has diverse applications on areas such as logistic and business. In parallel to this, since the 2000s, within engineering, a new science that has emerged researches complex artificial structures known as metamaterials: a produced material that takes physical properties non-existent on nature. RFID tags work by inductive coupling that occur through evanescent waves, making effective operating distance limited. In addition, due to the fast decay of the signal intensity, the mistakes of signal reception become common when too many tags RFID are positioned close to each other, because there is not enough energy to allow all of them to respond to the reader. This project aims to show the development of a pair of metamaterial-based near-field lenses that can be used to focus evanescent modes on the systems by inductive coupling in order to improve the efficiency of RFID tags and increase effective operating distance. In the experimental phase of this project will be used smartcards as a kind of RFID tags. The smartcard identification happens through the Near Field Communication technology.
