Resumo:
This paper aims at contributing to the development and validation - in a turbulent channel flow - of an advanced optical technique for measuring three-dimensional velocity fields, the Holographic Particle Image Velocimetry technique, also known as HoloPIV. Particles are added to the flow, in the vicinity of the measurement volume, being illuminated by a laser beam. The interference pattern generated by diffraction of coherent light is what is known as a hologram, and may be numerically reconstructed a posteriori, recovering the volumetric information through their three-dimensional coordinates. From the reconstructed volume pairs, the 3D velocity fields can be obtained, which will represent the structures and physical mechanisms present at the flow region under investigation. The study and development of this technique ultimately aims to create and test new methods of understanding and improving drag reduction in turbulent flows. Such type of results can be widely applied not only into the research field but also in the industry.
