This research aimed to investigate the stepfathers in the context of blended families, specifically, the position occupied and the difficulties faced by them in the family dynamics were analyzed. According to the literature, most authors highlights on the specifics of remarriage and the difficulties encountered by the couples from the new marriage bond, given the complex network of family relations. Furthermore, two antagonistic forms of function in the blended families were found: the integration and the substitution, which were both used as reference for data analysis in the qualitative research. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with seven stepfathers in the field research. According to the participants report, it was noted that or the stepfathers can act to replace the function of the biological father, rivaling them, or, in opposite way, they could act as an additional figures within the family, helping parents in the task of educating children/adolescents without major confrontations with the father. Despite the uniqueness of each family, it was found that stepfathers confront similar impasses and difficulties. In conclusion, it seems that the stepfathers to create singular space of action, avoiding conflict regarding the task and functions with others family members. It is hoped to establish them in a diverse parental space, where they could exercise a pluriparental experience.
