This study aims the social representations of school success for secondary grade teachers. It has a exploratory character of qualitative nature. The used methodology comprehends the collection of testimonies of 18 teachers through semi-structured interviews focusing teacher’s representation of school success, as well as the factors they believe to have important influence in this success. Besides the interview, images have been presented to be classified as positive or negative in the representation of success. The use of images was carried out to allow comparison among speech and what it is represented symbolically. In data analysis, for each proposed image an inquiry was done raising the possible meaning of its symbols, and how they might have influenced teacher’s choices. It was looked to identify the school success representations among teacher’s answers accordingly to theoretical referential of Serge Moscovici and Denise Jodelet, to whom representations are prepared, shared and turns to be the common sense of our society. A reflection about success was proposed and its causal factors, understood as necessary to a student manage success, were categorized. Results point out that school success must be measured beyond school walls, not limited to grades and evaluations. The representations of school success of the interviewed teachers lead to believe that a student who managed success is someone who managed to satisfy his necessities, in line with Maslow’s framework of human needs.
