The present work intends to explore the theme of the recent emergence of cases of populism, in the main democracies around the world, through a study on the interweaving between populist phenomena and digital networks, taking as examples two recent populist phenomena that fall under the so-called digital populism: the case of the 5 Star Movement in Italy and that of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. Far from seeking to systematize all the elements involved in the electoral trajectory of both, it was intended to list important factors related to the political rise of both, such as political conjuncture, biographical characteristics and, especially, how they emerged and were sustained from the media field, creating a space of its own for growth in view of the difficulty of accessing public resources. The cases were chosen mainly because of the centrality of the use of digital tools combined with populist strategies and, in the Italian case, because it was one of the first partisan experiences born from the media field. It is intended to contribute to demonstrate how these cases fit into this notion of digital populism and to emphasize, given the prominence that this theme has gained in recent years, both political phenomena as valuable objects of study, helping to understand other similar ones that exist or that will exist in the future from the virtual environment. Initially, brief notions of populism are taken into account, taking as constitutive part of representative democracy and flexible to changes in sociability patterns in society. Subsequently, the analysis of the two cases is carried out, through the reading of authors who study them. And finally, they are compared in the light of populist tendencies present in the logic of digital tools, in spite of the visibility and potential reach to the detriment of the ethical validity of the messages produced by the users.
